Massar believes that life is a journey that offers us many different paths and directions. A journey that offers us many choices and goals. It is in our own hands which of these paths we look for, with whom we travel and what we make of the journey…

Massar, a Project for Syria

Massar is creating a national learning and development programme for young people in Syria using non-formal learning techniques to inform, involve and inspire young people across the entire country to become active citizens.

Massar forms part of The Syria Trust for Development, a national non-profit, non-governmental organization under the patronage of H.E. Mrs. Asma al-Assad, The First Lady of Syria.

Massar represents an example of non-governmental organization that builds active relationships with government bodies and the private sector to play an important part in supporting the development process in today’s rapidly changing environment.

Massar is an Everlasting Journey

Massar’s journey started in 2005. It addresses the young people of Syria without any discrimination and believes fully in their potential. While being engaging and interesting, it’s a source of empowerment for young people enabling them to develop their skills and to build their country’s future.

Massar Vision

Through science-based, hands-on experiences we look forward to give the young people of Syria a deeper understanding and appreciation of their world and empower them to contribute actively and positively in building the future.

Massar Channels

There are three main channels by which Massar reaches and engages its target audience:

1 – Outreach: The National Touring Programme travels around the country to communicate with young people through ‘The Green Team’. It uses a diverse range of activities to reach and engage young people. Our community programmes reach Massar beneficiaries in Homs and Lattakia, in addition to several events and workshops throughout the year.

2 – Discovery Centres: Lattakia Discovery Centre (Amwaj Massar) was opened in 2007. New discovery centres will open soon in Homs, Damascus and Aleppo.

3 – Virtual: Massar works on enhancing the role of ICT in learning, in addition to communicating with audience through media channels and massar.sy

Massar and the Future

Massar was designed to provide sustainable development programs, and is now working on executing futuristic plans. The Discovery Centre in Homs will open by the end of 2010. Massar will also open Damascus Discovery Centre in 2013. We are currently working on formulating the theme of the Aleppo Discovery Centre, as well as developing the project’s running programmes.
